Austin police on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, released video of the response to the shooting of Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez, 28, a Venezuelan man wounded by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on Sunday, September 20, while he was delivering for DoorDash.

The footage, presented at a news conference by Police Chief Lisa Davis, shows agents approaching Garcés Pérez and first responders treating him, but not the moment the agent fired, according to CBS Austin. The ICE officer who fired had been issued a body camera but was not wearing it, according to two Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials who spoke to NBC News; a second agent’s camera in the same vehicle captured partial footage that does not include the shooting. Attorney Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch said her client returned to a hospital with severe pain and difficulty moving his left arm before being taken back to the Pearsall detention centre, with the bullet still lodged in his back, according to CNN. Austin police’s special investigations unit is examining the case alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety.
