US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov meet in New York on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, according to the State Department, cited by the Kyiv Independent and the Ukrainian news agency UNN.

The meeting was scheduled for 9 a.m. (UTC-4) and comes a day after President Donald Trump’s talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said he was ready for an energy ceasefire if Russia accepts the same terms. Lavrov addresses the Assembly on Saturday, September 26, and Russia’s Foreign Ministry said the agenda includes Moscow–Washington relations and cooperation between the two countries at the UN.
