Britain’s air traffic control provider NATS (National Air Traffic Services) said a technical issue at its Prestwick centre in Scotland is restricting traffic and delaying flights leaving Scottish airports or heading north of the United Kingdom, according to the Associated Press and the BBC; airports south of Manchester are broadly unaffected, the company said. NATS says the problem is unrelated to the software defect of 8 September that led to more than 2,000 flights being cancelled, and the airline easyJet said the fresh failure “once again calls into question the resilience” of the company’s systems.
