The life sentence handed down by the Milan Court of Appeal was converted to 30 years, since Brazil does not provide for that penalty. According to deputy prosecutor-general Artur Gueiros, it is the first time an agent of a dictatorial regime will serve prison time in Brazil for human rights violations.
