The embassy said that smuggling an illegal military-grade artillery shell from China to Papua New Guinea was virtually impossible given China’s firearm control laws. China rejects the claim and says the object poses no danger, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to the embassy, the program familiarized officers with the use of crowd-control vehicles and the different scenarios in which they may be used. Prime Minister Matthew Wale, in office since May, announced in June that the government would review the 2022 security agreement with China and similar agreements with other countries. In September, the country reached an agreement in principle with Australia to sign a new security treaty.
